This video explains each stage of getting a PhD in detail. The steps start from the qualifications required, and they end with how you will need to defend your thesis in a viva. There's also guidance on how to find a supervisor, and how the funding for your PhD might work. Simon's steps include:
- Step 1 - Get a degree in a relevant subject. Most people do a masters course, and their education normally follows some kind of progression, e.g. an undergraduate degree in physics that leads to a graduate education in atmospheric physics.
- Step 2 - Find a supervisor for the subject that you're interest in researching.
- Step 3 - Come up with ideas for original research by expanding on another author's ideas or showing why some published ideas may not be correct.
- Step 4 - Write a thesis.
- Step 5 - Defend your thesis in a viva.
